Training and Professional Development
Dr. Joseph Okoye graduated from the College of Medicine,
University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Following his internship and National Youth Service, he
proceeded to Germany, where he completed five years of
postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at
St. Franziskus Hospital in Muenster, Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Upon completing his training, he became board certified in
Obstetrics and Gynecology and subsequently returned to Nigeria.
He worked briefly at Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, as a
Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist.
United States Practice
Internal Medicine and Clinical Leadership
Dr. Okoye later relocated to the United States, where he
completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine.
He is board certified and licensed to practice medicine in
the United States.
He worked for many years as a physician with major hospitals
in South Carolina and North Carolina, where he was responsible
for the management of hospitalized patients.
He later established his own outpatient medical practice,
Eastway Medical Clinic and Urgent Care, in
Charlotte, North Carolina, which he manages with his wife,
Dr. Sylvia I. Okoye, an internist.

EnuguUSA Medical Mission
Dr. Okoye’s confirmation as Medical Director recognizes his
extensive medical background, leadership experience, and
continued commitment to the EnuguUSA Medical Mission.
The Office of the President looks forward to his continued
leadership as EnuguUSA works to advance the mission and
objectives of the organization.
